  • Well, he never accepted the challenge to meet an adversary face-to-face, anyway. Another little known fact about Franklin is that he kept a cohort of highly-trained ninjas on retainer. Whenever anybody challenged Franklin, he would decline, making a great show of his disgust toward dueling (which was well known), then send his ninjas to steal into his opponents' house by night and slit their throats while they slept.

    All of this was revealed in Benjamin Franklin's memoirs: "Deadly Silence: How I Used Ninjas To My Political Advantage". It's a real page-turner, if you ever happen across a copy.
