The U.S. "Duck and Cover" campaign of the 1950s was conceived by a U.C. Berkeley improv group. They submitted the idea to Civil Defense as a prank.

    Because the civil defense never came up with something new on it's own, ever.

  • I remember doing the "Duck and Cover" thing in elementary school. I always wondered what good my little desk would do against earthquakes or being bombed by the Vietnamese. ;~D
